WINDMILL OF YOUR MIND

„Windmill Of Your Mind“ is an audiovisual reflection created by the artists Stefanie Sixt and Markus Mehr.
How do lifethreatening or shocking experiences manifest themselves in the body and how do they  influence the brains and minds of the future generation?
Whereas Sixt is looking back in her family history, Mehr is facing a personal experience in the year 1973.

In her artistic video work Stefanie Sixt explores the phenomenon of transgenerational trauma. She is fascinated by the nonverbal operating mode / communication within generations, that might even lead to epigenetic changes and do influence ways of life and personal conditions unconciously. But they become reality on an emotional level.
Sixt is reflecting/exploring this topic with visuals shot in an old hunting lodge in austria that has been familiy property for almost 100 years now. Memories of her childhood as well as of her grandparents and parents are part of this place. Almost 50 year old Super Eight material from her nuclear family are mixed to a collage of current detailed shots of the interieur, the old children´s room or  lounge, subtly inserted is the image of her father in his dying process.

SOUND

Markus Mehr returns in thought and emotion to the year 1973. He searches for the places in childhood that have shaped his inner stature to this day. "It was a seemingly endless summer, characterized by a mood of departure, towards better things. But even in summer there were clouds". Mehr traces his childhood expectations, hopes but also fears and insecurities and gives them a sound. As always, he works with field recordings, recorded at original locations, manipulates, dissects and arranges them to then tell an authentic sound story. „Windmill Of Your Mind" is a very personal soundtrack and an attempt to give order to the events of that time on an artistic level.
